1.Schengen visa

In order to visit Slovakia, most foreigners apply for a single Schengen visa. It entitles the holder to enter the entire territory of the member states of the Schengen area, for example for the purpose of visiting relatives and acquaintances, tourism and the like. It can be issued for one, two or more inputs.

The length of stay of a foreigner in the Schengen area may not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period.

The Schengen visa is not used for employment, business or similar gainful activity. You will need to submit the following documents :

– completed and signed application form, available in Slovak and English

– color photo of the face (3 x 3.5 cm)

– valid travel document, the validity of which must be at least three months longer than the expected validity of the requested visa

– documents proving the purpose and conditions of the planned stay

– travel ticket, plane ticket

– documents related to confirmation of accommodation

– documents related to financial security and solvency in the amount of EUR 56 per day of stay

The deadline for a decision on a visa application is 15 calendar days. This period can be extended to a maximum of 45 calendar days, especially if further assessment of the application is required. 

The simplified visa process applies to nationals of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. In these cases, the deadline for deciding on a visa application is 10 calendar days, and the fee is EUR 35.

The visa is issued in the form of a sticker in the passport.

After obtaining a visa, a foreigner is entitled to stay in the Schengen area for the period specified in the visa.

There is no legal right to grant a visa

.The representative office is entitled to designate a border crossing point for the foreigner to enter, which he will enter in the Schengen visa

A foreigner who has been granted a visa is obliged to report the beginning, place and expected length of stay to the police department within three working days of entering the territory of the Slovak Republic.

2.National visa

A national visa is granted

  • in connection with the granting of residence in the Slovak Republic
  • to a foreigner older than 15 years accepted for language education at a language school in the scope of at least 25 hours per week
  • if it is necessary to fulfill the obligations of the Slovak Republic arising from international agreements

The application for a national visa is submitted at the slovakian embassy  in the applicant’s home country.

The following must be submitted with the application

– valid passport
– color photo  3 x 3.5 cm
– confirming the purpose of the stay
– travel insurance
